Pendleton Wakes For the Spring Jubilee

by Rick Amorey

The dogwoods begin to show their buds, heralding the spring season in the small historic town of Pendleton, South Carolina. But beyond that, it also marks the approach of the popular Spring Jubilee. The town, as a whole, begins to prepare for the happy event. It is as if the whole place has wakened from a long hibernation.

The greens in the village are carefully tended and arranged, which ensures the bloom of lots of pretty green colors by manicuring and fertilizing the area. The Pendleton Garden Club takes charge of this task, and they are able to do the task well with a work-hard ethic. The Pendleton Area Business Association then replants the greens along with fresh spring flowers all around the square.

The merchants are likewise just as busy, washing and decorating their shop windows, checking and rechecking their stock, and otherwise preparing for the exciting event that’s coming. Everyone in Pendleton has one thing on their mind; to get the town as fresh and as picturesque as they can for the largest event of the year! Spring Jubilee, here we come!

April has come and gone, and the Spring Jubilee of 2009 was a huge success, I can tell you that much. The weather was cooperative; calm and sunny, and there was a great crowd then, lots of talented artisans both from and visiting Pendleton. Of course, there were a lot of fun events and delicious food to taste. We were all quite happy you were able to attend and take part in the festivities.

If you want to get into the mood for the Spring Jubilee, you could try on some of the shirts that are donated at the Pendleton District Commission. These shirts are designed in a way that shows the fun that can be had at the Spring Jubilee.

Now, it’s time for our farewells. But don’t despair if you missed this year. You can mark your calendars for April 3 and 4, 2010, and I’ll be seeing you at the next Spring Jubilee when next year comes!
