The Value of High Quality Furnace Filters In Your Home Furnace

by Jim Samposzi

Heating and cooling are essential to homes and necessary for those living in them. There are parts of the world that are cooler more often and parts of the world that are warmer for longer in a given year. Therefore, homes abroad depend upon some form of hot and cold for different seasons of a given year. Depending on where you live, you might need hot more than cold or vice-versa. Some climates offer an even keel throughout the year.

Regions like the southern U.S. depend on air conditioning for a better part of the year. Although people living in this region may incur a big utility bill, these individuals rely on these units to stay alive. Because of that necessity almost every home that is built or rented include central air throughout the whole home. Further up the hemisphere, others rely on heat for a majority of the year. Wherever you are, a furnace depends on a new and dust-free filter.

Furnace filters block most particles and other unwanted material so that they will not find their way into the inner-workings of the air conditioning unit. If dirt, small particles, and other stuff gets into the furnace, it can break down. Also, it is essential to change these filters periodically, as specified in the unit’s manual, to enable peak performance of the air conditioner. Failing to change the filter can increase the electric bill ,in some cases, because the unit will have to work harder to heat or cool the home. Not changing the filter periodically, can yield a unit that no longer works!

These filters do not only protect the unit from unwanted particles, they also protect humans against allergies. Some of the manufacturers of these filters out there in the market claim to reduce the allergens in the air of the home. Some say that indoor air is twice as allergenic as the air outside. With this reduction of indoor trapped air particles, manufacturers are capitalizing and creating furnace filters that improve indoor air cleanliness.

Because of the many furnace filters available, the price can vary. Some brands claim to be the best. But, the truth is that none are. Some are better than others but they all lack in some degree of effectiveness. Furthermore, air filters, and more specifically, air conditioner filters, are provided as one month without reuse and are sometimes three month disposables. Furthermore, there are permanent ones available that can be pulled out, cleaned, and popped back in.

Whatever state or country one resides in, they will need heating, cooling, or sometimes a combination of the two. There are some climates, like California, that benefit from a steady climate all year long wherein it is never too hot, nor too cold. However, people in these climates still own and run furnaces to be able to adjust if necessary. Again, this changes as a result of where one lives as to how much hot or cold is required. But, whatever the climate, if you run a furnace, you must have a good filter.
