Easy Steps To Cleaning Your Blinds

by Maria Castronuevo

There is one household chore that most of us dread, and that is cleaning our blinds. This chore can be very frustrating and time consuming, but it must be done because these home accessories seem to be dust magnets.

There are tips and hints that can make cleaning your blinds much easier and more pleasant, so that you do not put it off any longer.

Using your household vacuum cleaner is quick and easy especially if you have a brush attachment for it. The brush will stop the dust from flying everywhere and will capture the dirt immediately.

Using socks to clean your blinds is not only creative but real quick too. Put one wet sock over your hand and a dry sock on your other hand. Alternate cleaning your blinds with wet then dry socks and in not time this chore will be done.

Paintbrushes are not just for painting anymore. By using a clean, small brush it is very effective because the brush fits easily in between each slat and they can be cleaned with one swift hand motion.

Another option is to take your blinds down from the window and soak them in a sink in hot soapy water with a bit of vinegar. Let them soak for about half an hour to an hour then rinse them off thoroughly and wipe them dry before putting them back up. Please note that if you have wood or cloth blinds do not consider soaking them in water. This method is only suggested for aluminums or vinyl.

By cleaning your blinds regularly you can keep them clean and nice looking all the time and the dust and dirt will not build up and accumulate. Or you can consider purchasing attachments for your hands and fingers that fit easily between the slats. Some of these attachments may not work as planned or are very pricey. Either way, you can experiment for what works well for you and accomplish your goal with keeping your blinds nice and clean all the time.

For wood blinds use a soft cloth and wipe the slats with a spray. Pledge is an example of a spray that helps to eliminate dust and dirt while nourishing the wood too. This process leaves the wood shining and looking new and reduces the possibility of cracks at the same time. Whatever type of material your blinds are made of regular cleaning will keep them looking like brand new.
