How Effective Is Organic Pest Control?

People have seen the rise of organic products and the demands for these have risen as well. To be able to say that a particular product is organic means that no harmful chemicals were used to process, protect or produce the product. Usually, the crops or vegetable produce are the ones targeted by many pests. Many farmers are now treating their organic produce with organic means of keeping the pests away.

Different Kinds Of Organic Pest Control

Organic pest control does not necessarily mean sprays or hard work. Sometimes, common sense works as well as any chemical pest control. One of the most common organic pest control systems that do not harm the plants, the soil and the people who consume the produce is wire meshing. Wire meshing is similar to the wire used to screen your windows and protect your home from insects. These types of organic pest control mesh can be formed as covers for your vegetable gardens and protect them completely from pests.

Other barriers which serve as organic pest control are matting that is placed around he plants base to discourage insects from laying eggs on the base of the plant. These types of organic pest control matting also discourage the growth of weeds around the plant because the soil is covered from the sun. Plastic garbage bags can also be spread out on the garden bed and holes can be added to accommodate the vegetables you are growing.

More organic pest control ideas are traps and grease bands for slugs, flying insects and some flightless insects. These traps work with some substance or element like beer that attracts the slugs and contain them in one trap. Moth traps are also called pheromone traps because these have pheromones that attract male moths and they stick on the trap as soon as they land on it. Grease bands are bands of grease painted onto the side of the tree to discourage climbing flightless insects from going up the tree or bush and eating it or mating.

Always check your plants for signs of insect activity and infestation. Some insects are beneficial to plants and you should get to know which ones you can tolerate and which you must get rid of. You must also maintain the state of your plants and trees. Trim or prune dead and dying branches to get rid of organic material that can attract other insects. A clean farm can also be detrimental to the insect population and will discourage many insects from making homes in your farm.
