Home repair plumbing - Original House Plumbing

Tip! Now that was probably the only time in my life I have been grateful for bad plumbing.

What's the big deal with original house plumbing? It's a good question and with a little clear thinking, it soon becomes obvious that old or original house plumbing is susceptible to problems. What Can Happen In some cases, the original materials were faulty or unfit for purpose to begin with. This happened a lot in manufactured housing in the eighties and nineties and resulted in a lot of warranty replacement and even class action lawsuit.

This sort of thing results in major house plumbing problems. Next, we'll consider a case where the materials were fine but were installed in a less than professional manner. It happens. The problems created from faulty workmanship often are hidden and show up as undisclosed house plumbing problems. For example, a drain that just doesn't quite drain properly seems to be just an inconvenience. A long-term slow leak in a place that does not readily show it is even worse, as the cost is there nonetheless and eventually will contribute to larger house plumbing problems or structural issues that impact other parts of the house.

Old pipes are impacted by house settling, minerals in the water and just sometimes they fail. How To Check House Plumbing It is pretty easy to check the main plumbing in most homes. Do the faucets drip or leak? Are the connections tight and clean at water inlets to toilets, faucets and water heater? Is there standing water or a slow drain? If there is a pump, is it always running? Visual investigation of house plumbing is best but listening will sometimes tell you that water's running. where and when it shouldn't be. Home Repair Do the repair as soon as you can. House plumbing problems have a way of going on for years before getting dealt with. Water damage - often unseen at first - will make a small repair turn into a big remodel, so do the repair.

Remodeling If it's time to remodel anyway, then great - go for it! Remodeling time is a great time to upgrade house plumbing, correct earlier design glitches and expand the water closet to serve modern day needs. Maybe you can finally get the washing machine into the house or out of the basement. My folks are both 89 this year. They took the big oven out of the kitchen and put a stackable washer & dryer in with just a one day remodel project. They are still managing at home with only a cleaning lady coming once a week. The rest of the house plumbing is shot but that's another story.
