Herbs de Provence; Old World Flavor with a New Name

The origin of Herbs de Provence is Southern France, Provence. It is a mixture of some other herbs. It began its commercial sales in 1970s. Actually, before that date, it was unknown completely.

This herb can be mixed for a fresh usage. It is often found as a dried blend. Traditionally, the blend comprises some mixtures of herbs. We see that basil, orange zest, lavender flowers, and more are some of these mixtures. Yet, there is a difference in its use, based on its manufacture or tastes of personals.

In fact, this herb is used as a marinade to flavor foods. It may be added to foods or as a rub on some other foods, such as fish and meat. Generally, this mixture is well-known in Mediterranean region to be an addition to some delicious dishes. It can be added to soups and stews as well.

There are some great recipes for using herbs de Provence in every day cooking. Try rubbing herbs de Provence on chicken, beef or lamb. Just rub with olive oil, salt and pepper, and then rub the herb mixture onto the surface of the chicken or meat. When grilling, try sprinkling herbs de Provence to the hot coals.

Potatoes Provence is a nice change to a rather boring staple in our diet. Wash and scrub three large potatoes and cut into thin wedges. Coat potatoes with olive oil and place in a single layer on a baking sheet. Sprinkle wedges with the herb blend and bake in a 450 degree oven for 25 minutes until crispy and golden.

If you are a fan of aroma and flavor of herb bread you can bake some herbs de Provence. Just add 2 spoons of herbs de Provence to a double loaf. Just you will act according to that delicious French bread recipe. An oven may be heated to 400o before you bake for 10 minutes. You can reduce the heat degree to 350o for 20 minutes. Remove from pan and leave it to be cooled.

Thus, Herbs de Provence is considered great and delicious herbs that you can select among, according to your taste of favorite meals.
